Unhinged

Title: Unhinged
Author: AG Howard
Publisher: Amulet Books
Release Date: January 7, 2014

"Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole. She was crowned Queen of the Red Court and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the boy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly appealing Morpheus. Now all she has to do is graduate high school.
That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.
Could she leave Jeb and her parents behind again, for the sake of a man she knows has manipulated her before? Will her mother and Jeb trust her to do what’s right? Readers will swoon over the satisfying return to Howard’s bold, sensual reimagining of Carroll’s classic."
What I liked: Making a second trip back down the rabbit hole is something I will enjoy for quite a while. Alyssa is back and living a somewhat normal life again until Morpheus shows up in the human world. Which I enjoyed because it meant we would be going back to Wonderland, to see the consequences of what Alyssa left behind when she chose to leave Wonderland since she is a Queen. Wonderland has changed in her time away. What continued to help captivate me is it wasn't the same problems as before and now since Alyssa is a Netherling she has to ultimately decide which world will be hers.

Plus with the return of everyone from the first book returning, this time with the addition of Alison being let out of the asylum it added to the adventure. We got to go back and look at Alison and what she was doing for Wonderland when she was younger. Alyssa's art has taken a new look but is still as dark as before which was an added bonus hearing about her art and how it had changed.

What I didn't: The stinking love triangle, shape mess is still in play. On one hand Alyssa has Jeb, mortal and lives in the human world, on the other we have Morpheus who has been known to manipulate her but he grew up with her and like her is a Netherling. We get it, she has to pick between the two but so much conflict when they are in play together.Sorry love triangles aren't my thing.
